Welcome to the personal site of Ian Watson, nerd extraordinare.

So, I'm a big nerd.
Fast-forward to 1996 or so. Due to printer troubles, TSR stops producing games for about six months. Around the same time, I start playing a little game called Vampire: The Masquerade with some new friends of mine. I fall in love. The game is all about the story rather than killing stuff for XP. As wonderful as Planescape is, it still suffers from the core mechanics of AD&D. So, not having any Planescape books coming out, I started collecting White Wolf books set in their World of Darkness. Each of them opened me to a new imaginary realm, all set in the modern world. They were amazing. Around 1998, White Wolf started up their "Wolf Pack" demo teams. I signed up. It didn't last forever, but it lasted a while. When I finally left, I was requested to stay signed up on the Wolf Pack mailing list, because they liked my contributions to the packs as a whole. In late 1999/early 2000, White Wolf started up a chat environment using Digichat software. After chilling there for a while, several of us were selected to be Storytellers for a moderated World of Darkness chat called New Bremen. Then-webmaster Conrad Hubbard only picked two STs, of which I was one. New Bremen proved to be far, far more popular than anyone had expected. What we thought was an initial rush turned out to be the status quo. I ended up being Head Mage Storyteller for a year, and Head New Bremen ST for another six months. Soon, other chats were started: Jade City for Exalted, Fangsfall for Scarred Lands, a semi-moderated Trinity Universe chat, Rookhausen for Ravenloft. I was Storyteller or Dungeon Master on all of them. In 2001, I decided to start up a site for news and rumours pertaining to White Wolf. At the time, finding out information was challenging, and I saw need for a site to do all that research and collect it all in one place. Wolfspoor was born. In-between everything else, I dabbled in creating fan-books for the Trinity Universe. I got a lot of backing from the people who originally worked on the books, but in the end I couldn't wrangle people together when they were busy doing paid work. What material I did get was top-notch, and I've since put it online for people to use or edit as they see fit. After White Wolf redesigned their website in 2004, the need for a site like Wolfspoor sort of evaporated. My avatars, however, proved popular, and I've continued to build on that. White Wolf continues to use them as defaults in their official forums. Now I continue to produce avatars and icons, as well as maintain the unofficial White Wolf Wiki. I'm the only volunteer moderator on the official WW forums. I continue to be a sort of cheerleader for White Wolf fandom, such has assisting with brainstorming for new fan-based chats and co-administrating some fan sites. I'll continue to do this until either I die, or White Wolf sinks beneath the waves. |
